Materials on hand
acid, equal to one cup of
1/4 cup of olive oil
whatever shampoo scent you like, 1/4 cup
A shallow or oval-shaped plate
Initial Step: Gather Necessary Items: Combine the vinegar and shampoo in the little basin. Incorporate the vinegar and shampoo well by mixing them together.
You need to add olive oil. Gradually drizzle the olive oil into the mixing basin. If everything is working as it should, a small layer of oil should rise to the surface of the liquid.
To set up the trap, position the basin in an area where flying insects, such as mosquitoes, are common. Potential candidates include any damp areas, such as those next to doors or windows.
What Happens:
As a bait, vinegar draws in flies and mosquitoes thanks to its strong and enticing scent. Apple cider vinegar works especially well because it contains natural fermenting agents, which are appealing to these pests.
The combination of vinegar and shampoo decreases the surface tension of the vinegar, making it easier for insects to sink if they attempt to settle on its surface. This creates an entrapment effect.
The olive oil acts as a slick coating over the mixture. Suffocation from the oil will reduce the flies' or mosquitoes' capacity to fly away if you introduce them to the trap, especially via the holes in the plastic wrap.
Importance of:
You may use this trap anywhere in the home without fear of harming your children or pets. But place it out of reach if you're concerned about spills.
After a few days of monitoring, or if the trap mixture becomes too full, it's time to replace it.
Installing the Trap: Look for a warm, shaded area that is often visited by flies and mosquitoes.
